The best place to start is with the most constrained areas. The single purple square is the key.
Step 1: Place the cat in the Purple Region
The purple region consists of only one cell. Since every region must have a cat, this is a forced move.
- Place the cat in row 5, column 4.
Step 2: Place the cats in the Olive and Pink Regions
Now, look at the two-cell olive region (row 2, columns 6 and 7) and the two-cell pink region at the top (row 4, columns 6 and 7). A cat must go in column 7, but it can't be in both row 2 and row 4. The final solution requires the pink region's cat to be in column 7. This forces the olive region's cat into column 6.
